Wandering through the streets, she noticed others alone.
She wondered what their stories were but continued toward her home.
At least she still called it that, though empty as the sound
Of her footsteps making contact with the slick, mist-covered ground.

She wrapped her coat around herself, as she hurried on her way;
The gesture only reminded her of a long and empty day.
The song she once had in her young and hopeful heart
Forever silenced by cutting words that tore her world apart.

"I'm leaving you," he quietly said, as he packed his bags to go.
"I haven't loved you for a long time now; I can't believe it didn't show."
Begging hadn't come to mind; his words had pierced her soul.
His calloused way had stopped her heart and left her feeling cold.

She pulled the coat up tighter, reliving all the pain;
Wishing thoughts would dissipate and not come back again.
His words would always haunt her and bring up hidden grief.
She wrapped her arms around herself and prayed for sweet relief.
